A Celebration of Clematis

Come join us for a two-day Celebration of Clematis at Joy Creek Specialty Nursery in Scappoose. This year’s celebration will feature the Clematis integrifolia group. Stroll through mature plantings in the gardens, visit display tables and browse through the nursery for choice clematis to take home. Learn how to plant and care for your clematis. Discover new varieties of clematis by attending our afternoon lectures. Friends of the Rogerson Clematis Collection (FRCC) members will be available to answer your questions. You will also have the opportunity to join FRCC in order to volunteer at the world famous clematis collection at Luscher Farm in Lake Oswego and attend additional talks, lectures and workshops.

Both days will feature a plant of the day special. Maurice Horn, co-owner of Joy Creek Nursery, and himself a clematis aficionado, has graciously made this offer available. Maurice will be on hand both days.

Saturday, June 2 at 1:00 p.m. Incredible integrifolia: A Clematis of Influence and Integrity – The species C. integrifolia is incredibly versatile in the mixed border combining with many a perennial to make dazzling effects. Because of its great hardiness and long bloom, it has also been hybridized with other clematis to produce some very fine garden plants. Presented by renowned author, Linda Beutler

Sunday June 3 at 1:00 p.m. Early Masters of Clematis Hybridizing – Many of the clematis we grow in our gardens today have been in the retail trade for over 100 years. Learn about the historic hybrids of such great breeders as George Jackman, Charles Noble and Pierre Louis Victor Lemoine and the reason for the staying power of their fine hybrids. Presented by internationally acclaimed clematis collector, Brewster Rogerson

There will be light refreshments provided by Joy Creek both days. Have you ever tried their chocolate chip cookies while wondering through the garden? Imagine!
