Herbarium specimens (pressed/dried samples of plant parts) are still the gold standard for identifying both species and cultivars of all plants. Every major botanic garden with curated living collections has a herbarium. Our curator has visited several of North America’s best herbariums and will have visited the Edinburgh Botanic Garden in July 2018.
